So ya wanna do a 5k ay? Let's go! Don't wait until you're "ready". Set the date and join us. EveryBody is welcome. Walk, jog, run or stroll!
About this Event

So ya wanna do a 5k, ay? Me too! It's my favorite race. Oh, Cross Country nostalgia. For the last 3 years, I've coached a family run club & physical education for independantly educated kids and as they have grown, so have their goals. As soon as one preteen said they wanted to do a 5k...I was like say no more kid! I have always said I wanted to organize a 5k, so...let's do it!

Suuure, we could just show up at a bigger race, but why not make our own and have it our way? It'll be the perfect way to get a small group of old friends, new friends & commUNity together to get moving. I know alot of people who say they've always wanted to do a 5k and get stuck in the nay-say. Quit waiting to be "ready" and join us now! We focus on what we CAN do vs. CAN'T. Every day and ability is different so start there with us at the start line.

Whether you can run, walk, jog or bring a stroller...it's an opportunity to get outside, get moving, get some sun and I don't mean to brag, but have some fun. So bring your best can-do attitudes, activity appropriate shoes & you.

WHAT'S PROVIDED?

Water & electrolyte hydration stations will be provided on "race" day, along with ice cold "batons" (popsicles) which sounds epic after all that work, right? There may or may not be water balloons involved (for those who wish to participate). Guess you'll have to join us to find out. Safety waivers will be available the day of.

WHAT THIS I HEAR ABOUT AN AFTERPARTY?

Why have just a 5k when you can have a party too? We'll be having our after-party at the Old Mill Park shelter benches & playground after. So bring potluck style shares for a picnic! There is a charcoal bbq I think we should fire up ;) Please let me know what you're bringing when you register on evenbrite! If able, just want to share that some of our families have dye, & peanut allergies.)

You can also keep up with the event at the facebook event to be uploaded soon. Lawn chairs & games welcome!

WHY THIS LOCATION?

This is where our all ages and abilites family run club meets every summer. It's perfect because the circle which we will lap (approx) 10 x to complete 3.1 miles is small enough for us to stick together regardless of pace or goal. Family and friends will be able to see their runner and cheer them on throughout. This park is also right next to a shelter for shade and a playground for littles who need a break.

WHAT'S THE BATHROOM SITUATION?

You may have heard of the famous porto-potty plight of race events. Well since this is a private pop-up party, we will have access to only 1 porto-potty which the park provides. I'll make sure it's in human deserving working order before race day. P.S: It wouldn't hurt to have wipes or hand sanitizer on hand.

PLEASE ENSURE YOUR RUNNER HAS HYDRATED BEFORE WE MEET & ATE SOMETHING THAT CAN HELP THEM GET THROUGH WITHOUT FEELING TIRED OR CRAMPY. Often times, this can look like drinking fluids, fruits or other sources of electrolytes and liquids the day/s prior to a physically demanding asks of the body. Especially during hot weather. For food...healthy fats, proteins and carbohydrates (yes, we need those to live) will help us stay healthy and capable while having fun and healing after too. Take care of you!

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE 9AM?

For a few reasons...While most races begin earlier (7& 8 am start times), our runners and students are used to meeting around 10 or so. I chose 9 am because our distance this time is longer, which means it will take longer and we can get started before the morning's peek heat is overhead. Plus, who doesn't like extra sleep?

We will meet at 9, do group warmups together & we'll be off!

While I do hope most of you stay to party and play after the run...there are other community events too so figured we spend some time together earlier and everyone can go on in their day.

WHY DOES IT SAY FREE ON THE TICKET, BUT $10 PER RUNNER/ $15 ask per family?

The eventbrite website is a free means to register...this let's me know who will be there and how many so I can plan accordingly.

The asking donation is a reasonable ask for supplies for our run party. While most races typically range $30+...they often include things like tee shirts or random merch. Since this is a small, pricate grassroots event, we don't have sponors or middlemen and can do things our way for a small fee. If you wants would like to donate a larger amount or additional sponsorships, please reach out!

HOW CAN I PAY?

Please register on eventbrite by August 20th.

Payment and additonal donations can be offered via

Electronic Payment (Chase Quickpay, PayPal, Venmo)

or cash on the day of event please and thank you.

PARKING OPTIONS:

A.)

Old Mill Park in Sycamore Illinois, is located off of Main & Mt. Hunger. (It is across from Sycamore Middle School & behind the new retirement builds) There is a small parking lot which you will follow down a path to the playground and circle we'll be running circles on.

B.)

Sidestreet parking on the next street over (Kelly Lane) is also an option. If you plan on carrying alot of food, chairs, etc...it'll bring you closer to the park. Take Kelly all the way down to the turnaround and you saved yourself from extra walking.
